The Patric Morrissey lectures - Spring 2010

“This series is an attempt to answer some questions I kept asking myself when confronted with many different objects on a recent visit to Athens. How did Mycenae fit into the broader picture? How is it that the paintings from Thera seem so sophisticated? Will I only begin to look at Greek pottery when I understand more about it? Why does pre-classical sculpture seem so alive? What did the icon mean to the understanding viewer?
I hope these talks will help make participants’ next visit to Greece, the British Museum or the new Ashmolean Museum more enjoyable.”
